GM Stock Price Increasing After Today's Initial Public Offering
Today marks the second IPO of GM share. This is less than a year and a half right after the business initially filed for bankruptcy. The General Motors stock price is holding steady around $35 per share this morning. This is about $2 above the ipo price of $33. The United States Government has sold half of its preferred stock in General Motors, raising about $23 billion.
GM ipo starting up
The company went through a lot to get to the GM IPO that begun this morning. GM could go public again after one year and five months of trying to get out of the bankruptcy and $50 bailout from federal taxpayers. The New York Share Exchange had General Motors share, or General Motor stock, for sale. $33 a share was the price. The CEO of GM got to open the trading day at the NYSE, ringing the opening bell with a 2011 Camaro SS horn blast.
Share prices for General Motors
After opening, General Motors share went up in price. about $35 a share was what it hit. Depending on how today goes, this could very well be the largest ipo in the history of the NY Share Exchange. GM initially planned on offering merely about $20.1 billion worth of share today. As much as $2 billion may be expanded with GM stock within the ipo though. The record set by the Agricultural Financial institution of China in July would be broken if the GM IPO goes over $23.1 billion.
Will General Motors Initial Public Offering help working class individuals?
The U.S. Treasury has chosen to sell half of its stake within the company. At $33 a share, the GM stock raised about $23 billion for the Treasury. It isn’t exactly what taxpayers invested within the company, although it's the beginning. To make up for this investment, $53 a share will have to be exactly what the government sells the rest of the stock for. Just like all other initial public offerings, the regular investors trying to get some share may not have much of a chance since just 5% is going to regular individuals.
