Anyone that has heard of Las Vegas tourism will know it for the strip of road that runs through the center of the city; lined with casinos, gaming houses and endless assortments of entertainment venues to feed the senses. It is also a place where thousands people come to get married in style and in a hurry, though this buzzing metropolis is also a shoppers paradise. You don’t have to go far to find massive shopping malls filled with the latest fashions and accessories, as well as cafes, restaurants and shops selling electronic goods. There are people that actually fly into this small dessert city for a weekend shopping spree then fly out as quickly as they came. If you get tired of the hustle of the main drag, there are a number of themed malls just outside of the city that will surround you in a more relaxing environment.
Before you arrive you’ll definitely want to pre-book accommodation in or around the central strip, if you’re worried about the cost then search the streets just off the main drag for some of the cheap hotels Las Vegas has to offer. When you go in search of good shopping, you’ll find that many of the large Casino/hotels also provide their guests with amazing indoor shopping villages; some have even been designed to look like quaint foreign villages, with the ceiling painted in sky patterns to immerse the visitor in the fantasy.
A holiday in Las Vegas can be like a dream, you could find your self shopping in an old 17th century village, while shopping for the latest pair of Reebok or Nike trainers. With so many different shipping venues in and around the city it can be a chore to find the best ones, so here are 2 locations that will give you very different shopping experience.
(1) Fashion Show Shopping Mall – This is an enormous 2 million square foot shopping complex that houses hundreds of top shelf clothing brands. Every Friday, Saturday and Sunday the center holds special catwalk shows for its visitors, these run every hour giving customers glimpses of the great clothes that are on sale. If you are a fan of boutique high fashions then you are spoilt for choice, the fashion mall has a Saks, Macy’s, Bloomingdales and Dillard’s to name a few. For the younger visitors with more contemporary tastes there is a special section with brand names from Zara, MetroPark, True Religeon and Talulah G. With so may stores at your disposal there is no doubt you will find many great Las Vegas discounts on different brand products. When you finally get tired of browsing through the endless rows of back to back stores, this amazing venue has plenty of food stops to keep you filled up; there are 11, 288 Sq foot food courts filled with a variety of different delicacies to fit anyone’s palette. Finally, besides clothing there are 2 up market galleries for the art lovers out there; Centaur Art and Z Gallerie has both contemporary works from up and coming artists and beautifully created classics, which would make a great addition to anyone’s home.
(2) MonteLago Village – Not everyone want to stay on the main strip, if you want a different Las Vegas shopping experience then you might want to head to this place, the MonteLago Village situated 17 miles from the town center next to the main airport. Situated beside a large lake, this shopping village is an ideal place for anyone looking to get away from the hustle of the Las Vegas strip for a while. The buildings have been built to look like they belong in a traditional Italian styled village, you can completely lose yourself in the relaxed atmosphere while window shopping for gifts. There is a mix of different shops; you’ll find high end boutiques offering the latest fashions, antique stores, porcelain doll shops, as well as cafés, bars and restaurants to keep you going. To add to the authentic feel of the mall, there is an Italian ice cream shop and if you want to unwind stop into the Irish pub for a quick pint, before hitting the tables again.

Central Park will be a really pretty walk in October. If you walk on the East side of the park, you can pass the Central Park Zoo, and eventually, the back of the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
For discounts on Broadway Shows, find one of the TKTS Discount Booths. You can buy tickets to a show that's playing that day with significant discount. Try to arrive early, as the lines can be VERY long. It's worth it though, because I've gotten tickets for half price. According to their site, the Times Square Booth sells day-of-performance tickets only and the South Street Seaport Booth sells tickets to evening performances on the day of the performance, and matinée tickets the day before.
The East Village is a great neighborhood to visit if you have the time, especially if you want to just roam the streets and see local flavor- lots of boutiques, cafes, etc. Great for people watching. If you like cheap Japanese food, try Kenka on St. Marks Place. Great food, great prices, and definitely an interesting atmosphere- busy, but laid back, with all sorts of kitschy memorabilia from Japanese fims and posters on the walls. Not the best for families though- it's more for groups of friends. Also in the East Village is The Strand, NYC's largest used book store. They literally have miles of books at great prices, including NYC history and guide books.
Also, try walking across the Brooklyn Bridge into Brooklyn. The walk itself is gorgeous, and there's the Brooklyn Bridge Park too. Lots of great walking and sights, all for free.
In general, definitely try searching sites like Citysearch or Yelp to look at reviews of different stores or restaurants. NY Magazine or Time Out NY also have "Cheap" guides to help people plan outings that don't hurt your wallet.
If you're looking for cheap places to stay, but want a unique experience, go to Craigslist and look at NYC sublets. Some people have short-term (like 1 week or a weekend) sublets for vacationers- it's way cheaper than a hotel, and you get a whole apartment to stay in.
