Different Beads Different Uses
Beads can be found in various different varieties in the market from small to big, thin to thick and round to fancy shapes. Where some beads are used as main components for jewelry making some are used merely as space fillers or findings to hold the precious jewelry pieces together. This article discusses about the three different varieties of beads that are known for their unique qualities and purposes.
Gold filled Crimp beads
Crimp beads are small jewelry findings that are attached to either ends of a jewelry article to hold its valuable elements together in shape. Crimp beads act mostly are buffers to provide a platform to the beading wire to reach the jewelry clasp for closure. The specialty of crimp beads is in the way they are used. Crimp beads, once attached to a wire, are first crushed and squeezed by crimp lies in order to provide a secure locking system.
The most important feature of crimp beads that decides their quality and durability is the material used. The best metal for such purposes is gold filled. gold filled crimp beads are much long lasting, flexible and easily moldable as compared to other metal beads. Gold filled crimp beads also help in maintaining the flow of the jewelry article without having any adverse effects on the skin or health of the wearer.
Lapis Lazuli Beads
Lapis lazuli beads derive their name from two different languages where the word "lapis" comes from a Latin language that means stone, "azul" is taken from the Arabic language meaning blue. This indicates that lapis lazuli beads are deep blue in color. The color of these gems is a result of the presence of minerals like sodalite, calcite, pyrite and hauyne and about 40 percent of lazurite. As the stone is made from the composition of so many minerals, it falls under the family of a rock rather than a mineral.
These relatively soft lapis lazuli beads are being used for jewelry making purposes since the past 6000 years.
Jade beads
Jade beads are one of the most popular forms of beads used in jewelry making industry. Mostly used in making hand crafted necklaces, bracelets and earrings these stones are very tough and thus appropriate for jewelry making.
Up until 500 years ago, in Imperial China, the word "jade" was used to define something valuable and precious just as "gold" in English. However, today jade beads might not be that precious and rare but are certainly a common accessory for jewelry making and a symbol of love, passion and status.
